In January 1944, the painting was in the Kunstverein in Cologne where it was valued at 120,000 francs. It was included in the list of looted art objects sent to France from Munich in March 1946 and was entrusted to the Musée National d'Art Moderne by the third Artistic Recovery Commission in December 1949.
