1914, Alberto Magnelli, Les Ouvriers sur la charrette (The Workers on the Cart) -- Pompidou Center (Paris)
From the museum label: The blocks of vibrant colour contoured in black, the complementary tones and incisive stroke contribute to the visual force of this work.
Although he never fully embraced the artistic vocabulary of the Cubists and the Futurists, Alberto Magnelli retained their experimentation with line and colour. Resulting in a "semi-figuration" in which the artist simplifies forms to the extreme, as in this scene where we can still distinguish, in the midst of a colourful chaos, a bright red cart, two characters and a street lamp.
