1910, Maurice de Vlaminck, Les Peupliers (The Poplars) -- Pompidou Center (Paris)

From the museum label: This landscape by Vlaminck came into the possession of Gustav Rochlitz, an art dealer in Paris who was involved in the trafficking of artworks looted by the I'ERR, during the occupation.

Rediscovered in 1945 in a German village, near the Swiss border, the work was negligently left in the damp cellar of a police station for four years before being repatriated to France by the sixth convoy from Baden-Baden in July 1949. It was entrusted to the Musée National d'Art Moderne by the sixth Artistic Recovery Commission in May 1951.
