1918, Alberto Magnelli, Explosion lyrique nº 2 (Lyrical Explosion No. 2) -- Pompidou Center (Paris)

From the museum label: After a short period of abstraction, Magnelli introduced figurative elements in his dynamic style.

At the end of the war, Alberto Magnelli began the Lyrical Explosions series. While their exuberance can be seen in a vigorous touch and recourse to vivid colour, it is also to be detected in the choice of subjects. Seeming to echo Edouard Manet's Olympia (1864, Paris, Musée d'Orsay), this work is presented as an allegory of pleasure in peace time.
