1914, Vassily Kandinsky, Bild mit rotem Fleck (Picture with Red Spot) -- Pompidou Center (Paris)

From the museum label: In this perfect square, the effects of transparency and diffusion of colour betray the influence of painting on glass.

Wassily Kandinsky often spoke of his wish to enter into "vibration" with the viewer, as can be seen in this maelstrom of colours. Two patches of colour are linked by a double hoop. Except for the red patch that gives the painting its title, the divided touches illuminated with white and the trembling lines cause an exceptional shimmering of matter.
