1535 (ca.), Titian (Tiziano Vecellio), Allegory of Marriage -- Louvre Museum (Paris)

From the museum label: With this work, Titian created the prototype of Venetian marriage paintings. The husband and wife are disguised as Mars and Venus, the Roman gods of war and love. They are accompanied by the protective deities of marriage: Cupid carrying arrows, Vesta crowned with myrtle, and Hymen holding a basket of fruit.
