1938, Robert Delaunay, Rythme n°1, décoration pour le Salon des Tuileries -- Musee d'Art Moderne de Paris

From the museum label: Robert Delaunay's optical research on light and colour starting in 1910 built up to the monumental scenes that he and his wife Sonia created for the 1938 Salon des Tuileries. Their works capture the vibrancy of modern life while pushing the boundaries of canvas and painting. In the same vein as the Bauhaus and the French Union of Modern Artists, they contributed to the development of an art that had to accompany social progress and which, in order to be accessible to all, was based on the search for new aesthetic forms. They thus came to develop the abstract and radiant aesthetic that would ultimately characterise them.
