1914, Leo Gestel, Mallorca -- Germanisches Nationalmuseum (Nuremberg)
From the museum label: The synthesis of Fauvist, Cubist and Futurist stylistic elements is characteristic of Gestel's quest for the dissolution of shape and space. His style was inspired by Herwarth Walden, who exhibited works by Italian Futurists in The Hague in 1912. Walden also actively supported Gestel: In 1913 his art was exhibited in the "Erster Deutscher Herbstsalon". His Mallorca paintings from 1914 are both the highlight and the end of this creative phase.
