1912, Christian Rohlfs, The Collegiate Church of St. Patrocli in Soest -- Germanisches Nationalmuseum (Nuremberg)
From the museum label: The small medieval town of Soest was a place of inspiration for Rohlfs. Alongside the social criticism of the Expressionists he placed an ideal of a medieval urban society. The church appears to grow out of the surrounding houses. Rohlfs brings out what he feels are the essential forms and colors and uses them as components for a composition which is abstracted from material reality. In this way he depicts his vision of a unity encompassing heaven and earth.
