1910, August Macke, Lake Tegern Landscape -- Germanisches Nationalmuseum (Nuremberg)
From the museum label: The painting reflects Macke's examination of the work of Henri Matisse, the leading artist of the "Fauves". Matisse equated the harmony of colors with the harmony of music, which on an abstract plane is able to reflect emotions. The painting was intended to make the experience of the visible world resonate in luminescent colors. This corresponded with Macke's own reflections on the expressive power of color.
