1882 (ca.), Gustave Caillebotte, Garden in Trouville -- Wallraf-Richartz Museum (Cologne)

From the museum label: This painting only becomes clear on second glance. Initially the viewer is dazzled by the sunshine that alights on the trellis flowers in the foreground. Between the golden green of the foliage and the red of the roses one can vaguely distinguish the house in the background and make out its chimney, which rises up to the right beside the treetop. But the actual subject of the painting is the summer heat and the merry colours of a farm garden.
