1974, Ay-O, Happy End Series 5 [screenprint] -- National Museum of Asian Art (Washington)

From the museum label:

With a thick plume of smoke similar to that in Mount Fuji Eruption (right), this volcano seems to burst out of the ground, erupting into a plume of smoky lava. The ground and sky are also painted as rainbows, but the different directionality of the gradations means the composition is still legible. Although Ay-Ō sent his designs for screenprints to be printed in Japan, he also made oil paintings. Many of these works are thought to still be in the United States, in private collections.
