1904, Odilon Redon, The Buddha -- Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam)
From the museum label: In 1905 Andries Bonger, Theo's brother-in-law, bought these two large panels full of flowers by Redon for his home. The material, painting technique, and border make a matt and flat decorative mural-like effect. Redon was consciously seeking this quality Like many: contemporary artists, he wanted to integrate art into daily life: all of the interior fittings, from the mirror to the curtains, were incorporated in a single grand decorative programme.
