1882 (ca.), Gustave Caillebotte, Plate of Peaches -- Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam)
From the museum label: Caillebotte and Redon's peaches look velvety and juicy. They make you want to sink your teeth into them. Rendering the texture of objects to the best of one's ability is one of the challenges that painting can offer. A still life allows a painter to demonstrate their level of skill in this respect. Caillebotte chose a large plateful of peaches, while Redon was satisfied with a single fruit.
