1639, Frans Hals, Officers and Subalterns of St George's Civic Guard -- Frans Hals Museum (Haarlem)
From the museum label: In 1639, Haarlem's St George's civic guard commissioned Frans Hals to paint a group portrait. It was his sixth and last civic-guard painting. The guards are assembled outside with their pikes, halberds and colours, ready to leave. More of the company are arriving from above to join them. Among them is Frans Hals, who had been a guardsman since 1612. He is the man in the top left corner looking directly at us.
