1928, Charley Toorop, Woman with a Black Hat -- Frans Hals Museum (Haarlem)
From the museum label: Charley Toorop is one of the best-known artists of the 20th century in the Netherlands. As the daughter of artist Jan Toorop (1858-1928), she soon learned to draw and paint, but developed an entirely different style. Her portraits are noticeable for their hard lines and extra-large eyes, which give Toorop's figures a rather powerful appearance. Likewise this unidentified woman with her fashionable cloche hat.
