1696, Gerrit Berckheyde, Grote Markt with the Great, or St Bavo's Church -- Frans Hals Museum (Haarlem)

From the museum label: This is what Grote Markt looked like in the late 17th century. Not much has changed - although the people who walk there now are different, as are the façades of the houses. Yet St Bavo's still towers above one and all, and the sun still shines as brightly. This view of the town is by Gerrit Berckheyde, a Haarlem artist who specialised in city views.
