1625, Jan van Goyen, Summer -- Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam)

From the museum label: Small circular landscapes must have been in great demand among the art-buying public. Van Goyen painted dozens of them over the years. In Summer and Winter, he combined several typical 'Dutch' motifs: an old house in the shade of a tall tree, a windmill on a bulwark, and skaters on a frozen canal near a castle.
