1910, Jan Sluijters, Path through the Woods -- Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam)

From the museum label: With swift, expressive strokes of paint in bright colours, Sluijters painted this sunny forest view in the surroundings of Laren, in the province of Noord-Holland, where he lived between 1909 and 1911. He was strongly influenced by developments in modern art in Paris. In the Netherlands his colourful paintings were considered so innovative that Sluijters was seen as an ultra-modern artist.
