1860 (ca.), Honore Daumier, Landscape with a Figure -- Ashmolean Museum (Oxford)

From the museum label: Daumier was best known as a prolific caricaturist and draughtsman. His oil paintings generally have the same subject matter as his drawings and prints.

 

This atmospheric landscape may date from about 1860. It is thinly painted and, despite the presence of the figures under the tree, almost desolate.
