1551 (ca.), Agnolo Bronzino, Portrait of Giovanni de' Medici -- Ashmolean Museum (Oxford)
From the museum label: Giovanni (1543-1562) was the second son of Cosimo I and Eleonora of Toledo. This was painted about 1550-1551, when Bronzino was working on a group of Medici family portraits. Although only a boy, Giovanni is depicted as a powerful member of a ruling dynasty.
The carved and painted Florentine frame dates from about 1580. Its decoration recalls the ornate furniture seen in the portrait by Bronzino's pupil, Allori, hanging nearby.
