1532 (ca.), Titian, Giacono Doria -- Ashmolean Museum (Oxford)

From the museum label: This small devotional work was probably painted in the early 1550s soon after Veronese moved from his native Verona to Venice.

Such domestic paintings displayed his artistic talents. The sacred figures are rapidly painted and strongly characterized. George's gleaming armour attracts the eye. An early Christian soldier and martyr, he was a popular saint in Venice.
