1485 (ca.), Domenico Ghirlandaio, Portrait of a young Man -- Ashmolean Museum (Oxford)

From the museum label: Painted probably in the 1480s, this portrait was at the height of fashion in Florence. The three-quarter view was replacing the traditional profile portrait, which recalled ancient coins and medals. Ghirlandaio set his figure at an angle against a landscape background. These elements are inspired by Netherlandish art, which many Florentine merchants collected.
