1510 (ca.), Titian, Portrait of Gerolamo (?) Barbarigo -- National Gallery (London)
From the museum label: Gerolamo, the likely sitter, was a grandson of Doge Marco Barbarigo. Aged 30 in 1509, he was granted the Venetian government office of magistrate responsible for navigation. His blue sleeve dominates the picture space, appearing to protrude towards us. This device was taken up by Sarto in his Portrait of a Young Man, nearby.
