1902, John Singer Sargent, Lord Ribblesdale -- National Gallery (London)

From the museum label: Sargent was famous for his stylish society portraits. He moved to London in 1884, where he painted Thomas Lister, 4th Baron Ribblesdale in the British tradition of full- length portraiture. Dressed in hunting clothes, the sitter's elegant, elongated figure is reinforced by the upright classical pilaster behind, while his hand on hip, cocked top hat and jaunty neck-tie lend an informal and confident swagger.
