1887 (ca.), Paul Cezanne, Landscape with Poplars -- National Gallery (London)

From the museum label: The landscape is that of Cézanne's native Provence. Cézanne uses a variety of hatched brushstrokes to unify the meadow, trees and architecture. He paints the foreground in short parallel strokes. The foliage is formed by strokes applied at different angles. Dark lines define the roof and walls of a house.
