1872, Claude Monet, The Petit Bras of the Seine at Argenteuil -- National Gallery (London)
From the museum label: The Petit Bras was a quiet backwater of the river Seine near Argenteuil. Here, the river curves gently towards an empty horizon, and a row of poplars flank the river bank. The two small figures, and the large house across the river on the lle Marante are the only signs of human habitation.
