1663 (ca.), Rembrandt van Rijn, Portrait of Frederick Rihel on Horseback -- National Gallery (London)
From the museum label: This is the only equestrian portrait Rembrandt ever painted. Frederick Rihel was a wealthy Amsterdam businessman. An avid and accomplished horseman, he may have encouraged Rembrandt to tackle this unusual format. The portrait commemorates the part Rihel played in welcoming Prince William of Orange into Amsterdam in 1660.
