1942, Henri Matisse, Odalisque in a Black Armchair -- Philadelphia Museum of Art (special exhibition)

From the exhibition label: This composition reiterated Matisse's odalisque theme in his newer painting style of the early 1940s. Colors are applied flat, with no shading to imply depth or volume. Paint is applied thinly to allow the brightness of the white ground to shine through. The model, a Turkish-born woman named Nézy Chakwat, worked with Matisse in 1940-42.
