1895 (ca.), Edgar Degas, After the Bath (Woman Drying Herself) [pastel] -- Getty Museum (Los Angeles)

From the museum label: Tracing paper allowed Degas to constantly refine poses and compositions. The highly finished state of this pastel, with its richly complex decorative surface, is the result of a long process of development and evolution. At this period in his life, Degas retired to his studio and used tracing paper and pastel as speedy, effective tools for his intensive exploration of form and color.
