1913, Frantisek Kupka, Ordonnance sur verticales en jaune (Ordinance on Verticals in Yellow) -- Pompidou Center (Paris)

From the museum label: The alternating strips of colour evoking piano keys express Kupka's interest in music.

From 1911 to 1913, František Kupka worked on the Ordonnance sur verticales [Ordinance on verticals] series, which constituted a decisive milestone on his path to abstraction. His new explorations peered those of Vassily Kandinsky or Robert and Sonia Delaunay. The varying light intensity of the warm colours, punctuated by cooler tones, creates a sense of depth.
