1743 (ca.), Bernardo Bellotto, View of the Grand Canal: Santa Maria della Salute and the Dogana from Campo Santa Maria Zobenigo -- Getty Museum (Los Angeles)

From the museum label: Bellotto's precocious talent was fostered in the studio of his uncle, Canaletto. This canvas is a much larger version of one of Canaletto's compositions, popular with tourists visiting Venice on their Grand Tour of Italy. The view looks toward the mouth of the Grand Canal, with the Baroque church of Santa Maria della Salute dominating the right bank. Gondolas and ferries traverse the water, as they still do today.
