1891, Claude Monet, Wheatstacks, Snow Effect, Morning -- Getty Museum (Los Angeles)
From the museum label: Wheatstacks was the first of Monet's series paintings. Between the fall of 1890 and the summer of 1891, he painted thirty variations of this motif. The suite recorded what the artist called his "experience" of the wheatstacks near his garden at Giverny during different seasons and times of day. This picture reveals his singular ability to model form and capture light exclusively through strokes and dabs of color.
