1889, Vincent van Gogh, Landscape with Figures -- Baltimore Museum of Art

From the museum label: Like the Barbizon painter Jean François Millet, whom he greatly admired, van Gogh often painted landscapes that depict peasants in the fields and gardens they cultivated. Here, small figures working on a sloping hillside are all but lost in the expressive rhythmic brushstrokes that define the tracts of land. This work was painted either at Saint Remy in the south of France or at Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, where the artist spent the last months of his life.
