1866, Edgar Degas, The Collector of Prints -- Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York)

From the museum label: A portfolio of prints (including botanical illustrations by Pierre Joseph Redouté), a fashionable Tang dynasty horse, and Japanese fabric swatches and carte-de-visite photographs pinned to a board typify the eclectic taste of a contemporary collector. In the 1860s and early 1870s, Degas developed numerous figure paintings depicting individuals in settings that reveal clues about their character and vocation.
