1445, Giovanni di Paolo, The Creation of the World and the Expulsion from Paradise -- Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York)
From the museum label: This masterpiece of Sienese painting combines Giovanni di Paolo's exquisite visionary effects, inventive power, and narrative detail. Bathed in golden light, God the Father presides over the scene of Creation, in which the universe appears as a celestial globe. At right, an angel expels Adam and Eve from Paradise. Together with a scene of Paradise (gallery 625), this panel may have formed the base (predella) of an altarpiece, formerly in the Church of San Domenico, Siena, and now in Florence.
