1428, Masaccio (Tommaso di Ser Giovanni di Simone), Saints Jerome and John the Baptist -- National Gallery (London)
From the museum label: Saint Jerome is shown as a cardinal, with a bible and a model of a church. He is accompanied by the lion from whose paw he had removed a thorn. This was one side of a single panel for an altarpiece in Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome. The other is of Saints Liberius(?) and Matthias (displayed nearby).
