1883, Paul Cezanne, Tall Trees at the Jas de Bouffan -- Courtauld Gallery (London)

From the museum label:

The Jas de Bouifan was an estate just outside Aix-en-Provence owned by the artist's father. Cezanne painted many views of the house and grounds from 1865 until the sold the estate in 1899. He found here the solitude the needed to work.

Much of this painting has been executed with small parallel brushstrokes. Cézanne favoured this technique in the 1980s. It creates a shimmering effect which is particularly well suited to this picture. The leaves of the trees seem to rustle in the breeze.
