Aerial vista of Carlingford Lough and Fathom Forest

I hope I'm not mistaken. After studying a topographical map, I believe this body of water is Carlingford Lough. North of the lough (left of photo) is the Mountains of Mourne in Co. Down in Northern Ireland, and south of the lough (right side of photo) is the Cooley Mountains in Co. Louth in Republic of Ireland.

Not the entire land right of the river and lough is Republic of Ireland though. Where I'm standing now, in the hill above Fathom Forest, is actually in Co. Armagh in Northern Ireland also.

Yep, so the Northern Ireland-Republic border pretty much runs through the middle of Carlingford Lough.

The river at the bottom flowing into the lough is Newry River.

Once again I'm very grateful to Neill for driving me up the hill. Without a car, I could have barely made it to Dundalk, Newry or Carlingford on my own, but never the off-beat lookout areas like where we are now. I'm very lucky to have such hospitable and generous friends.
