Cross-Border Shopping

Back in 2003, 1 Canadian dollar could only buy 65 U.S. cents. American tourists flocked to Canada and Canadians moaned the high prices when visiting the U.S.

Fastforward to 2012, the Canadian dollar is at par with the U.S. Now it's Americans who complain about high prices in Canada. Meanwhile, Canadians flock to the U.S. and spend like there's no tomorrow. Suddenly day-to-day items in the U.S. can be 25% to 50% cheaper.

Here, each pack of 3 light-bulbs was 99 U.S. cents (super special sale price). Each pack would cost probably $10 in Canada (so it's 90% off in the U.S.)

The Ponds Cold Cream (for my mother) is the same price as in Canada, but contain 2 times the volume.

The Centrum multi-vitamins are also much cheaper in the U.S.
