Duca Financial Services (Duca stands for Dutch-Canadian)
Not far from my work place is the head office of Duca Financial Services.
The name Duca is a shortened version of DUtch-CAnadian Credit Union, a small ethnic credit union created by Dutch immigrants arriving in Canada following World War II. Back in 1954, 20 Dutch immigrants started the credit union with only CAD $236 in assets and they conducted the business over a kitchen table.
Duca now has over 35,000 members, 12 branche in Southern Ontario, and over CAD $1 billion in assets. These days of course anyone is welcome to open an account and become a member of this mutual bank.
