Braymiller Market (boutique grocery market/ supermarket)

Like many American Mid-West cities, Buffalo's formerly bustling downtown hollowed out with the rise of "auto culture" and decline of its industrial might. As income rose and car ownership became common after the 1960s, residents moved out of the old and small homes in downtown to the suburban bungalows. As people moved out from city centres, shops shut down, jobs became scarce, buildings became derelict, and local government revenue fell. It was a vicious downward spiral. City centres often became ghost towns.

So in 2024, during my last visit to the U.S., I was very pleasantly surprised to come across this Braymiller Market, a boutique supermarket (believe me, THIS WAS the only grocery/ supermarket) in Buffalo's downtown.

Alas, I just found out that it did not survive. After just a few (three?) years of business, it had shut down permanently already.
