Golden trimmings and embroidery, brass buttons
Here is the story... at the grand old age of approaching my mid-50s, I've been invited to a costume/ Halloween party for the first time. It will be a small party. The problem? I'm the world's No. 1 dumbo when it comes to pop culture and characters.
After days of worrying over it, I decided that my debut Halloween costume will be a soldier of the early 1800s, owing to the fact that I'm a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice and the TV mini-series Belgravia.
So I need a make-believe Napoleonic-era Hussar military jacket and boots. But no, I'm not getting a pair of breeches. I highly doubt I can afford a pair of breeches. I'm using a pair of off-white jeans instead. The jacket, boots and white jeans I can wear for other occasions.
I wonder if I'm breaking cultural appropriation rules. Frankly, I don't quite understand cultural appropriation.
