Anonymous Statue
The statue of Anonymus, the first medieval Hungarian chronicler, is located in City Park, in the courtyard of Vajdahunyad Castle. The work of contemporary sculptor Miklós Ligeti pays tribute to the nameless storyteller. What makes his work unique is that he manages to portray an important historical figure while hiding his face under a hood.
Anonymus' work provides an insight into medieval Hungary. His chronicles were signed as 'the notary of the most glorious King Béla', which is still not enough to accurately identify him as there were four kings called Béla in the 12th and 13th centuries, leaving him anonymous for now.
