While Virginia has a lot of Class 1 railroading, recent fleet standardization strategy has resulted in a lot of the same in terms of leading power. Add in cab signals on the RF&P, and you have to know where to look to find the hidden gems. NS V24, the Richmond district job to West Point, is certainly one of those trains. On a gorgeous summer morning, V24 is returning from West Point with a healthy train of box cars, crossing over the James River in Richmond with sweet EMD power. The crew of V08 will take this train to Crewe later in the evening, and interchange it to bring more cars back to Richmond. The next morning, V24 will bring it out to the mill, and the cycle will repeat. The Richmond district is currently undergoing some pretty serious MOW work, signifying that this unique line, tracing its roots to the Southern railway, is alive and well.
