Old Port Office Cologne
Das historische Hafen-amt, erbaut 1889, gehört nicht nur zu den schönsten Gebäuden im Kölner Rheinauhafen, sondern auch zu den schönsten Zeugnissen der Kölner Wirtschafts- und Baugeschichte.
Das Ensemble aus Hafenamt und angrenzendem Lokschuppen wurde Anfang der Jahrhundertwende um zusätzliche Büro- und Magazinflächen erweitert. In 2014 wurde das denkmalgeschützte Gebäude und der Erweiterungsbau vom bekannten Kölner Architekten Michael Zimmermann revitalisiert, ohne die vorhandenen stillvollen Elemente zu verändern. Es entsteht eine außergewöhnliche Symbiose zwischen historischem Altbau und modernem Neubau, der diesem Standort neue Akzente geben wird.
Herzstück des historischen Hafenamts und seinen Erweiterungsbauten ist die zentrale Halle, die alle drei Gebäudeteile miteinander verbindet. Die drei Bereiche, historischer Teil, moderner Teil und Lokschuppen, besitzen alle eine eigenständige Identität mit einer teilweisen unterschiedlichen aber immer hochwertigen Ausstattung.
The historic port office, built in 1889, is not only one of the most beautiful buildings in Cologne's Rheinauhafen, but also one of the most beautiful testimonies to Cologne's economic and building history.
The ensemble of port authority and adjoining engine shed was expanded to include additional office and warehouse space at the turn of the century. In 2014 the listed building and the extension were revitalized by the well-known Cologne architect Michael Zimmermann without changing the existing stylish elements. The result is an extraordinary symbiosis between the historic old building and the modern new building, which will give this location new accents.
The heart of the historic port authority and its extensions is the central hall that connects all three parts of the building. The three areas, the historical part, the modern part and the locomotive shed, all have their own identity with partly different but always high-quality furnishings.
