We hand fed him and as he towered far above us I connected with him for a brief moment shocked by the intensity of his intelligent gaze. He was aware of every move we made, evaluated us and patiently waited for us to give him carrots and apples. He is a former circus elephant and his bestie is a zebra with a bad attitude to other zebras.
