Eid Mubarak

Today, Aid al-Adha is celebrated among all Muslims all over the world

Eid al-Adha meaning "feast of sacrifice" or Eid al-Kebir meaning "big party" as opposed to Eid el-Fitr called Eid as-Seghir, or "little feast", is the most important Islamic festivals. It takes place on the 10th of the month of dhu al-hijja, the last month of the Muslim calendar and marks the end of hajj each year.

In Tunisia, as everywhere else in Muslim lands, this festival is symbolized by the slaughter of a sheep in memory of the sacrifice of Ibrahim to whom God had sent a sheep with the angel Gabriel to replace Ismael, the only son of this first who agreed to slaughter his son.

On the first day of the Aid, the men wake up very early to go to the mosque for the Aid prayer! It is after the prayer that the sheep can be slaughtered according to a precise ritual; part of the flesh of this sacrifice will benefit the poorest among the Muslims, thus strengthening solidarity and mutual assistance as prescribed by God.

It is a day of reconciliation where everyone is invited to forgive the one who has wronged him.

The photo I have chosen today shows the Minaret of the Great Mosque of Kairouan also called Oqba Ibn Nafi mosque in memory of its founder Oqba Ibn Nafi, is one of the main mosques of Tunisia located in Kairouan. Historically the first Muslim metropolis of the Maghreb, Kairouan, whose political and intellectual heyday is in the ninth century, is reputed to be the spiritual and religious center of Tunisia; it is also sometimes considered the fourth holy city of Sunni Islam

I wish all Muslims an Eid Mubarak and Happy day to my friends!
