On Sunday 21st. April 2019, Kuwait Airways Airbus A320-214, registration 9K-AKG performing flight KU-501 from Kuwait Int. Airport (KWI), Kuwait to Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY), Beirut, Lebanon, was on approach to Beirut's runway 16 and descending through about 8,000 feet when an impact occurred. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 16. A post flight inspection revealed damage to the radome.
Lebanon's Civil Aviation Authority reported the captain suggested they flew through a cloud of hail at the time, however, the damage was limited to just the nose with no damage to windscreen or other parts of the aircraft, suggests a lightning strike or some object. The airline reported the aircraft flew through a mass of passing snow.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 11 hours, then departed for the return flight KU-502.
Kuwait Airways Airbus A320-214, registration 9K-AKG, suffered substantially damaged when its rear fuselage was hit by a catering truck at Kuwait Int. Airport (KWI) on 22nd. November 2017. The aircraft returned to service on 26th. February 2018.
