14968 Corporal Harry H. Beck, 9th. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Born in 1896, the son of John and Hannah Beck of 4 Wroxham Road, Tunstead.

Died on Tuesday 20th. November 1917, aged 21.

Buried in Grave: Sp. Mem. B. 17. at Ribecourt British Cemetery, Nord, France with the personnel inscription:

'THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT'.

 

G/27590 Lance Corporal Francis James Burton, 12th. Battalion, Middlesex Regiment.

Killed in action on 26th. September 1916 during the attack and taking of Thiepval.

No know grave, commemorated on Pier and Face 12 D and 13 B of the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, Picardie, France.

 

22535 Private Frederick W. Burton, 9th. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Died on 15th. September 1916.

No know grave, commemorated on Pier and Face 1 C and 1 D of the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, Picardie, France.

 

G/14663 Private Gilbert John Burton, 2nd. Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, formally 4487 Private, Essex Regiment.

Born 1895, the son of Benjamin George Burton, of Mill Lane, Tunstead, husband of Gertrude Louisa Jane of Gunn's Corner Smallburgh, Norfolk.

Died on 13th. November 1917, aged 22.

No know grave, commemorated on Panel 86 to 88 of the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

 

19201 Private Reginald G. Burton, 2nd. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Died on 7th. November 1916.

Buried in Grave: IV. P. 22. at Basra War Cemetery, Basra, Iraq.

 

52050 Rifleman Stephen Canham, Rifle Brigade posted to London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), formally 14946 Private, Norfolk Regiment.

The son of William Francis and Anna Maria Canham, of Heath Road, Framlingham, Norfolk.

Died on Saturday 10th. August 1918, aged 21.

No know grave, commemorated on Panel 10 of the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France

 

18238 Private Stephen Edward Childerhouse, 9th. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Born 1880 at Hingham, Norfolk, the son of John and Martha Ann Childerhouse, nee Hammond, of Anchor Street, Tunstead, husband of Harriet Ethel, nee Canham, of 1 Aylsham Road, North Walsham, Norfolk.

Died on Tuesday 1st. May 1917, aged 37.

No know grave, commemorated on Panel 30 and 31 of the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

 

72845 Private Arthur Dack, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formally 149589 Private, Norfolk Regiment.

The son of Michael, a labourer, and Alice Dack.

Died on 17th. October 1918.

Buried in Grave: C. 12. at Vaux-Andigny British Cemetery, Aisne, France.

 

41319 Private Herbert Dack, 13th. Battalion, Essex Regiment, formally 29285 Private, Norfolk Regiment.

Born 10th. July 1896, the son of Michael, a labourer, and Alice Dack, Husband of Faith Mary of 1, Council Houses, Market Street, Tunstead.

Died on Thursday 3rd. May 1917, aged 20.

No know grave, commemorated on Bay 7 of the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

 

G/25983 Private Wallace Robert Drury, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).

Born at Tunstead on 13th. April 1899, the only son of Robert Thomas, a farmer, and Ellen Lucy Drury, nee Shreeve.

Died of wounds received in France at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 6th. November 1918, aged 19.

Buried to the north of the church in St. Mary's churchyard, Tunstead with the personnel inscription:

'SAFE IN HIS KEEPING'.

 

29987 Private Percival Seaman Gibbs, 'C' Company, 7th. Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment.

Born at Foulsham, Norfolk in 1891, the son of Alfred George, a farmer, and Ann Mary Gibbs of Guestwick, Norfolk.

Killed in action on the Bihucourt line, France on Thursday 15th. March 1917, aged 26.

Buried in Grave: III. J. 16. at Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.

 

7368 Private John Goodson, 2nd. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Born Sloley, Norfolk.

Died on Tuesday 17th. November 1914.

No know grave, commemorated on Panel 10 of the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq.

 

14087 Private Ronald Lubbock, 8th. Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment.

Born at Tunstead on 8th. May 1891, the son of Robert, a farm labourer, and Laura Lubbock, of Anchor Street; Tunstead, husband of Ann, nee Randall of 51 Tudor Road, Canterbury, Kent.

Employed as a blacksmith's striker.

Enlisted in Rotherham on 2nd. September 1914.

Killed in action during the attack at Ovillers on 1st. July 1916, aged 26.

Buried in Grave: V. C. 26. at Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood, Somme, France with the personal Inscription:

'IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN'.

 

22896 Private Marshall Ambrose Moore, 7th. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Born in Dilham, Norfolk in 1896, the son of Walter and Ellen Moore of Old Farm Lane, Tunstead.

Died of wounds on Wednesday 19th. September 1917, aged 21.

Buried in Grave: I. J. 20. at Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-Les-Mofflaines, Pas de Calais, France.

 

78025 Private Walter Richard Pestell, 10th. Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, formally 38404 Private, East Surrey Regiment.

Born at Tunstead on 20th. June 1899, the son of Samuel William, a farm labourer, and Maria Jane Pestell of Tunstead.

Died of wounds on 23rd. December 1918, aged 19.

Buried in Grave: VII. G. 10. at Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassel, Germany.

 

7369 Private Herbert Charles Westgate, 2nd. Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.

Born in Tunstead on 19th. March 1890, the son of James, a carpenter, and Emma Westgate of Tunstead.

Died on 30th. July 1916, aged 26.

Buried in Grave: IX. C. 15. at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.

Born in 1899 at Corpusty, Reepham, Norfolk, the son of Edward and Kathleen F. Clarke of Sco' Ruston, Scottow, Norfolk.

Enlisted 1st. March 1917.

Died of illness at Deal on Friday 13th. July 1917, aged 18.

Buried to the south of the church in St. Mary's churchyard, Tunstead.

 

7386/TS Engineer/Trimmer George Horace Jay, Royal Naval Reserve, HMS Idaho Auxiliary Patrol base, Milford Haven, Wales, formally in the Merchant Navy.

Born in Stalham, Norfolk on 14th. April 1889.

Died of war related sickness on 10th. May 1919, aged 30.

Buried to the west of the church in St. Mary's churchyard, Tunstead with the personal Inscription:

'HE DIED FOR KING AND COUNTRY NOW HE RESTS IN A SAILORS GRAVE'.

 

524079 Private Snowling Frederick Newstead, 576th. Area Employment Company, Labour Corps.

Born at Calthorpe, Norfolk in 1896, the son of Frederick Sumling and Eliza Newstead, of Lowlands Calthorpe, Erpingham, Norfolk.

Died 26th April 1919, aged 23.

Buried to the north of the church in St. Mary's churchyard, Tunstead with the personal Inscription:

'THY WILL BE DONE'.
